In this process, work piece is inserted into die and squeezed with another closed die until it transforms to shape of die. In cold forging, deformation occurs at room temperature.The strain hardening must be in permissible limit so that it enhances mechanical properties and doesn't require heat treatment. We use mechanical presses and hydraulic presses in various capacities according to complexity of the part to be manufactured. Forging is less expensive and requires no finishing. For steel cold forging carbon should be less than 0.5%. We use plain carbon steels up to 0.45% C and low alloy steels in manufacturing forged parts
